Summer Info Guide

Online Enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year opens on Monday, July 27th and closes at 8am on Monday, August 10th!

New Students - please contact our Registrar, Caitlin Mathews to begin the enrollment process.

Returning Students - beginning July 27, 2026:

• Gather all necessary documents
• Login to PowerSchool
• Verifiy and update
• Upload documents
• Submit enrollment for each student

Students will not be able to pick up their schedule or start school in the fall until immunization records and residency are in compliance.

Safety & Etiquette Reminders

• Students must remain in their vehicles until a staff member signals release at 8:05 a.m. (Mon-Thurs)/9:05 a.m. (Fr.)
• Walkers must use the cross walks
• Students will not be allowed to cross to/from the parking lot - DO NOT drop students off there

Safety & Etiquette:

• Drive safe and follow all traffic laws
• Be respectful and mindful of others, including students, staff, families, vehicles in the car rider line and parking lot, and neighbors.
• Wear appropriate safety gear, as needed.
• Do not perform tricks, race, drive at high rates of speed or drive recklessly.
• Follow all directions from school staff.

PERMISSION FORM

A student's parent/guardian is the only person allowed to bring in a lunch for them. Students may pick up that dropped off lunch during their designated lunch time. Other food deliveries (Door Dash, Uber Eats, etc.) will not be allowed or transferred to students during the school day.

Make sure you bring your photo ID to check out your student during the school day. You must be physically present in order for us to call your student to check out early. We cannot check students out between 3-3:15 p.m.

All ETMS students are given a planbook to keep an organized calendar and record of assignments for each class. Planbooks will be distributed in Homeroom on the first day of school. Students are expected to take the planbook to every class and write the daily assignment for each class. Parents can use the planbook to track their student's assignments. If your student loses or destroys the planbook, a replacement is $6.

Absences

All students are expected to attend school. The following procedures are in place for absences during a semester:

• 5 Days: Letter sent to parent explaining middle school attendance philosophy & subsequent attendance policies.
• 10 Days: Building attendance team will contact parents to determine what interventions are needed to increase student attendance.
• 15 Days: Potential conference between school & parents.

Tardies & Arriving Late

• Students are marked tardy if they are not in their seats when the bell rings.
• Students must be in possession of their planbook or digital hall pass throughout the day.
• Tardies are recorded in PowerSchool
• Eight total tardies to class will result in a STAD referral, parent contact, and progressive disciplinary consequences.
• If a student is late to school it will be noted in PowerSchool as Arrived Late (AL).
• Eight total Arrived Late (AL) notes will result in a STAD referral and possible progressive disciplinary consequences.
• Students with two or fewer ALs or tardies each semester may be eligible for incentives.

Students must keep backpacks, coats, and purses in their lockers during the school day. Students may use a drawstring bag to transport athletic clothing/shoes to and from PE.

Students and teachers will collaborate to work through a four-step Commitment Process to address behavior or academic responsibility concerns.

• Step 1: Student-teacher commitment conference & possible movement of citizenship rating.
• Step 2: Student commitment conference with teacher (before/after class or homeroom) and possible movement of citizenship rating.
• Step 3: Student-teacher conference, parent contact, and possible movement of citizenship rating.
• Step 4: Student-teacher conference, referral to student administration, and possible movement of citizenship rating

If a student does not complete the commitment responsibilities in Steps 1-3, a one-hour after school detention will be assigned by Student Administration (STAD). Flagrant verbal and/or physical behaviors result in immediate referrals to Student Administration (STAD).

Lee’s Summit R-7 recognizes the value of allowing individual student self-expression as well as the necessity of protecting student health and safety and maintaining an atmosphere conducive to student learning.

No procedure will impose dress and grooming rules based on gender in violation of Title IX or discriminate based upon race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, disability or age. All dress code procedures will adhere to health and safety codes and comply with applicable law.

Enforcement of the dress code will consider the usual habits of the students, which aid in developing each student’s fullest potential as a unique human being in a positive, inclusive learning environment. Extremes in wearing apparel or personal appearance that disrupts the learning process or interferes with the intended function of the school will not be acceptable. 

• Clothing must be free from display or advertisement of any alcohol, drugs, tobacco, weapons, violence, sexual innuendo, gambling, or reference to gang affiliation. 
• Clothing must be free from depictions or illustrations that demean or negatively represent any gender, race, color, ethnicity, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. 
• Clothing that results in inappropriate skin or undergarment exposure may not be worn at school.
• Clothing/accessories must be free from items which present a safety issue
• Shoes must be worn. 
• Hats may only be worn during special occasions or activities. 
• Coats must be stored in lockers prior to the start of school.

The school may restrict any student from attending classes or school activities when that student’s dress, general appearance, and/or conduct creates safety concerns, health concerns, or disruptions. All policy violations will be dealt with on a case by case basis and may involve a parent/guardian and/or school counselor.

Rules

Personal e-devices (cell phones, iPods, iPads, etc.) must be stored in lockers during school hours. Students' personal e-devices may not be used in the hallways, restrooms, or other common areas. NO camera or video-capable electronic devices may be used in locker rooms or restrooms at any time. E-devices shall not be used to connect to district electronic equipment or district electronic networks at any time.

Bus number, bus stop, and pick-up time will be emailed to families and added to Powerschool in August.

You must have your enrollment completed by August 10, 2026, to ensure your student's bus is routed.

Start with your student's teacher for questions or concerns in a specific class. Teachers can answer questions about grades, curriculum, academic progress, behavior or tardiness in a particular class. Our staff directory and channels to contact teachers can be found in the PowerSchool Parent Portal under 'school directory'.

Counselors can answer questions or concerns in the areas of scheduling, standardized testing, student adjustment to school or classes, placement in special programs or loss of a loved one.

Call our nurse for health/medication concerns or changes, as well as questions or concerns about student wellness issues.

Administrators can answer questions or concerns involving student safety, school policy, discipline, eligibility, and participation in sports.
